THE NEW PHOTOBLOG IS NOW HERE

Reasons: More flexible; can hopefully integrate the idea of the blog and the current site (meld this); faster to post and make changes; idle curiosity.

I’m slowly porting the interesting entries from this blog to the new one. Even though both blogs are wordpress, one is self-hosted, the other at wordpress.com and it isn’t all that easy to do the porting.

Where the model sailboats rule.

I’m doing a lot of work with this blog. Yesterday, I imported about 1000 posts from my old blogger account. (You can see them if you click on the archives dropdown). Now I’m in the process of tagging them and editing same.

Then I’m going to import and clean up the old pre-blog journals and import them as well. In other words - I’m treating some of this as if it is semi-valuable.

Another frequent question - how do you attach the print to the mat? Here’s an example of an 8 x 12 inch print being matted on 16 x 20 inch mat.

The mats (at least the smaller ones) are pre-cut by Stu-art Mats. Archival Museum 4 ply, white.

They do not arrive hinged. I use Lineco Linen Hinging Tape (I splurge on the Self-Adhesive version) to put the two pieces together.

I then use Lineco See-Through Mounting Strips. What I like about this is that the print can easily be removed from the mat. There is a bit of clear plastic that hold the print to the backing. The fact that it is clear - doesn’t really matter (to me). When the window mat is folded over, it is cut so that the plastic is hidden.

The limited editions are signed and numbered, both on the ‘window’ mat and the print.

And framing - that’s left to the customer.

The Temple of Dendur is a Nubian temple built during the Roman period around 15 BC. It was dedicated to the goddess Isis, the gods Harpocrates and Osiris, as well as two deified sons of a local Nubian chieftain, Pedesi (”he whom Isis has given”) and Pihor (”he who belongs to Horus”). The temple was commissioned by Emperor Augustus of Rome and has been exhibited in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York since 1978.

The reflecting pool was meant to symbolize, or represent - the Nile.

One of the few places in the museum where kids seem to want to break free.

And this has been a favorite place to photograph - mostly because of the light. I read somewhere that the glass in the north wall and ceiling were stippled, the intent being to mimic Nubian light. At any rate, the light in this part of the museum is special.

I’ve got all my infrared gear ready: wratten 72 filter, 25a (red filter); kodak ir film; changing bag; tripod!

and I’m just waiting for a sunny day to get back to the park. Monday should be good. Last year when I did my first infrared shots, I only worked with the red filter which gives a milder ir effect which can be controlled in PS with a multiply layer. But somewhere along the line I picked up a 72 filter and I’m going to use that as well - hence the tripod.

I put together a gallery of photographs from this blog that aren’t for sale. These are the unwashed, the ungainly, and the unwanted images; these are the harshly photoshopped, weirdly imagined bits that still deserve a place in this world if not on the living room wall.

For example, this was going to be the cover for a rap album by farmers that never materialized.

This is their new zenfolio home.

I first noticed her a few weeks ago.  She’s been playing celestial classical music that had me hypnotized.  I never saw how complex the harp was.  The pedals shifting the tones; the hooking and unhooking of the pedals with the toes; and I could see why it is considered the instrument of angels.

That’s what I find fascinating. What if I could use their expertise for the design, organizing, cart etc. beckerman.zenfolio.com — wow — that would be great. Especially, and just about only, if they incorporate a paypal cart.
