misc
A lot of rain in New York and I’ve been in it all morning with the M3. The only quibble I have with the C/V 28mm external viewfinder - when it got wet - man it got fogged up (inside) and I couldn’t unfog it until I got home. Of course the Leica viewfinder was fine all morning. And I came back completely soaked. I’m still doing this thing with runners at the track - practically lying down in the mud to try and get unusual angles.

The web site looks better and better.
A couple of thoughts about your problem a couple of weeks ago with the internet.
I had problems logging on last weekend. Called RCN (have cable access) and they immediately blammed it on my using a router (have a D Link Wireless thats about 4 years old).
After a half hous of unplug this and plus in that and connect the modem to the computer directly they say its the router. So I call D Link and they say its the cable modem, which still won’t work directly.
Call back RCN and its “Oh, just clear the ip settings.” This is after I had reset the router and had to set it up again, set up my son’s computer, printers, etc.
Got it all working.
Sme thing today.
So I bought a new D Link router for $39 after the rebate. Still doesn’t work. So called D Link and they set it up. Works now but they said that RCN must be having problems with ip address settings.
I will keep the new router because its a G wireless that provides more security, but if a problem happens again RCN better give me a new modem.
What annoys me is the way each hardware provider blames the other. The cable/DSL providers used to say that if you have a router we don’t get involved. They stopped doing that because they know people set up networks.
I understand what Dave went through.
Just imagine the average user who knows nothing from routers, ip addresses, etc.
Yep. Similar to what I went through. I had taken the router out of the loop - so when whoever says its the router I knew it wasn’t that.
And the ISP had pointed me at a virtual network site that you can use to see if it was something on their (ISP) end or not.
And things were working through the VPN.
I knew after a bunch of pinging etc. that there was a router between the ISP and the cable company (RoadRunner) and there wasn’t much I could do about it except wait for the middle guy to get it fixed even though I wasn’t sure who “owned” that part of tunnel.
Yes - it was a merry goose chase. And eventually it just “cleared up” on its own - i.e. the router in the middle was fixed.
Don’t really know how common this sort of thing is - only happened to me once in a couple of years. But yes - average use would be up the creek without a paddle.
The price of progress I guess.
Dave,
Nice to see you back. I can see that the your “break” has refreshed your eye.
Regards…
Thanks Roy.
True. I need time off from this “publishing adventure” sometimes. It seemed sort of crazy at the time to make the blog the home page since basically I’m trying to sell prints - but it has made life easier - since I really only have to update the blog once in a while and not the home page as well.
I had such a great time today in Central Park in the rain. It is amazing to me how empty the park becomes when this is absolutely the best time to shoot there.
I can’t imagine it being empty. I guess I have a distorted mental image of what it is really like. (thanks to too much T.V.!)
